list for Trekking and Climing :::
Footwear:
* Running shoes or sandals. To be used in camp in
the evenings or for lighter walking days.
*Light hiking boots. A pair of water repellent hiking/trekking
boots.
* Gaiters. A pair use to keep boots dry if walking
through deep snow or on wet ground. *Wool
or Pile Socks. Heavyweight wool to be worn over the
liner socks.
* Liner Socks. Pair of smooth thin liner socks to
be worn next to the skin which reduce
the likelihood of getting blisters and hot-spots.
Clothing:
* Goretex shell pants and jacket with hood.
* Medium weight down jacket with hood.
* Light trekking trousers.
* Long sleeve, light colored polypropylene shirts.
* Mid to heavyweight fleece jacket (Polar Tec 200
to 300).
* Lightweight synthetic long underwear for both top
& bottom.
* Light to mid weight fleece pants (Polar Tec 100
to 200)
Hand wear :
*Polypropylene liner gloves.
*Fleece gloves.
*Warms mittens or gloves.
Headwear :
* Warm wool or fleecy hat/balaclava.
* Sun hat or baseball cap with white bandana for shading
the neck.
* Bandana or scarf.
* Lightweight climbers headlamp for use at night around
the camp. Bring extra batteries and spare
bulbs
* High quality sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
Most effective for blocking sunlight are
the wrap around type or side covers, also worth bringing
a leash/croakies and a hard case.
Personal Equipment :
* 3 or 4 season sleeping bag with hood.
* Thermarest self-inflating pad and/or foam mat.
* 30 - 50 liter backpack large enough to carry water
bottles, camera, lunch & extra clothing.
* Stuff sacks and plastic bags for keeping your gear
dry and organized.
* 2 to 1-liter water bottles with a wide mouth.
* Sunscreen and lip salve with an SPF 30 or better.
* Insect repellant
* Water purification tablets (iodine or Pristine-
solution of activated chlorine dioxide)
*Favorite snack food
* Paperback books, walkman/ipod and cards
* 1 pair adjustable trekking poles.
* Camera and film
* Passport photos
* Insurance certificate
* Insulated plastic mug (optional)
* Pocketknife Swiss army style (optional)
* Earplugs (optional)
* Baby wipes (optional)
* Anti bacterial hand gel (optional)
Travelling:
* 1 large duffle bag for transporting your personal
gear on the trek and during flights. *Bring
small combination padlocks.
* 4 large plastic bin bags for keeping gear dry in
the duffel and backpack.
* Travel clothes. You will need street/casual clothing
for air travel days & time spent in
Kathmandu.
* Toiletry bag include toilet paper, soap, towel,
toothbrush, etc.
Personal first aid kit:
* Any personal medications
* Malaria prophylactic tablets
* Antibiotics for gastrointestinal problems- eg. Ciproflaxin
* Blockers- loperamide hydrochloride (eg Imodium)
* Blister treatment Rehydration powder e.g. Dioralyte
* Analgesic- Paracetamol, aspirin
* Plasters and Zinc oxide
* Antiseptic cream Throat lozenges
* Diamox (optional)- this is a drug helps with acclimatization
* Knee or ankles support (if required)

To join the climbing expeditions above 6500m you need the following
personal specialist equipment:
* Ice Axe
* Crampons
* Jumar
* Harness.
* 2 x Tape slings
* 2 x Screwgate Karabiners
* Prussic Loops
* Plastic Mountaineering Boots.
4 Season Sleeping Bag.
All other equipment is as needed on a normal high
altitude trek. |
