Kanchanjunga...

The Kanchenjunga area was only opened to trekking in 1988 although people have trekked in this area in connection with mountaineering expeditions since the turn of the centuary. Kanchenjunga is the home of Limbus and is on the border of Nepal and the Indian State of Sikkim, because of this, a circuit of the mountain is politically impossible. You can either trek to the North or South Kanchenjunga Base Camp or the alternative is to visit both North and South Kanchenjunga. But it takes luck, determination and a lot of time to visit both sides of the peak. This region remains technically restricted, your trek has to be arranged through a registered trekking agency who can provide the special permit that is required.
